One of my favorite subjects that we talked about through out the semester was that of experiences. I loved thinking about how in the moment we are experiencing something, if we step back for a second and try to take it all in, the moment vanishes. I really liked Brandon’s addition to the discussion when he was talking about surfing and how he can never really describe that experience to someone else, they just have to go and do it for themselves. This makes it so that you can never truly describe something as well as just going and experiencing it. It’s interesting how when people talk about something they have done and those who have done the same thing completely understand while those who have not, have no idea how to think of it. For example, swimming is a hard action to explain because describing the feeling of being surrounded by water is unexplainable. If I try to think back on times when I swam with my friends, I don’t think I can really explain that experience to someone else. Also, trying to examine that moment of swimming takes the moment away. If I was swimming and then stopped to think about how the water felt, then I would not really be living in the moment. Even trying to explain this is difficult, but even so, I really liked that discussion we had in class. I guess a better example might be being in love. That feeling is unexplainable. The person just has to feel it for themselves to know what it is.
